The Magnetic Flow Meter

The Magnetic Flow Meter

electromagnetic-flow-meter

One of the most well-known volumetric flow meters is the magnetic flow meter (also known as the mag flowmeter). This meter does not have any moving parts and is perfect for any type of wastewater application that includes unclean liquid. This magnetic flow meter is also known for dealing with applications where low flow, low pressure and low maintenance is essential.

Now, who couldn’t use that? Not only does it sound amazing, the price we offer can’t be beat. Shoot us over an e-mail at sales@proflowdynamics.com so we can give you a quote regarding your individual requirements.

(Keep in mind that Magnetic Flow Meters will generally not work with distilled water, hydrocarbons, water and numerous non-aqueous solutions).

Faraday figured out that if you apply electric current to a copper coil, you generate a magnetic field. That is now what we know to be Faraday’s Law… what a smart man.

So in the sense of the Magnetic Flow Meter, the flow of a conductive fluid through the magnetic field will cause an electrical energy signal (voltage signal) to be detected by electrodes, which are located on the flow tube walls. More voltage is generated when the liquid moves in a fast pace. It is fact that the voltage generated is proportional to the movement of the flowing liquid.

Here is what the formula looks like (if you are into that math stuff…)

For us, this means the “L” is the distance between electrodes in the magnetic flow meter. The induced voltage “ℇ” is generated in the magnetic field “B” due to a conductive liquid moving the velocity “v”.

There you have it. Now you are a Magnetic Flow Meter genius!

DEA Micro Flow Meter

Here at Pro Flow Dynamics, we represent DEA Engineering throughout the United States. This includes all products manufactured by DEA Engineering including the micro flow meter.

The micro flow meter can measure extremely low flow rates for liquid applications. It is far less costly than other positive displacement flow meters, fluid meters and liquid measuring instruments capable of measuring low flow rates.

During each cycle, the amount of liquid is displaced equal to the difference in the volumes of the chambers minus the volumes of the pistons.

This process repeats itself in a continuous flow at the rates of 1 to 210 complete cycles per second proportionately to the fluid flow through the meter.

Signal detection is accomplished by light interruptions of a photo emitter/detector device. A ferromagnetic wire tracks the magnet in the nutator [through a pressure tight barrier] causing these interruptions. The interruptions are electronically manifested as sine waves which are then conditioned by conventional electronic means to provide a square wave output.

One great thing about this meter is that it can easily be disassembled, cleaned and reassembled with reasonable care.

This meter is used for many applications such as gas odorization, fuel measurement, additive injection, chemical injection and adhesive dispensing.

Since we want to meet all your specific needs, we also provide specialty applications for your company.

For example, one of our exceptional customers, Ball Packaging Corp. located in Springdale, Arkansas, uses our micro flow meter as part of their aerosol can manufacturing. Their company specifically uses this meter for measuring the amount of lacquer being sprayed on the aerosol can welds. They make sure to do this so the welds of the cans do not rust and do not affect the environment in any harmful way.

We work together with Ball Packaging Corp. to specifically meet their individual needs. While working with them, we discovered their flow range is 5-6 cc/min and their viscosity is 25 cP (centipoise) which is perfect for our micro flow meter and their lacquer applications.

Just like Ball Packaging Corp., another company we enjoy working with is Vertex Incorporated. Vertex Inc. is located in Roanoke, Virginia and is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). They specialize in the integration of flow meters for various low flow applications. Our micro flow meter is their meter of choice for these difficult applications.
